It sounds insane when you talk about it but the most powerful people seriously want to put chips in our brains to connect us to OpenAI/Anthropic/etc. data centers so that we "merge" with AI. I guess those of us who refuse to do so will be condemned to a life of poverty, or killed.
Here's a video of Alexandr Wang, another AI billionaire, stating that he's waiting to have kids until such brain implant technology is available, because he wants to put the chip in his kids at an early age so that they have an advantage because brain plasticity is highest in children (not sure if this makes any sense scientifically): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QxA4dPP_LFc (I wish I could post an Invidious link but it's not working for me)
The sociopathy of these people cannot be understated.
Yeah... this is so true. They are narcissists also and want to own the world. May they rot in hell for being willing to do anything to get this power, feed their ego, etc...
They willing to destroy the environment and do absolutely anything to win.
I hate effs like that. I just do... so much...
Toggle reader view button also got me past the paywall.
Our administration wants it called Super Intelligence. We sure are moving towards an AI dominated world at blinding speed. Who can predict what's next?
Having spent a lot of time these last two years studying Revelation, Daniel and Ezekiel, this transhumanism idea might fit into the mark of the beast scenario.
Many of us believe that the next prophetic event is from the New Testament: 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18
"For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep. For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.
Wherefore comfort one another with these words."
Once the church has been taken out, that's when things go from bad to worse to worst. The natural world goes haywire and a narcissistic leader gains complete control of the political and economic systems that society depends on.
Finally, Christ comes back to save a remnant of His people, Israel. But by then the rest of the world will find no comfort in their mourning, "Behold, he is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see him, even those who pierced him, and all tribes of the earth will wail on account of him. Even so. Amen."
As a believer, I really do find comfort in 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18.
"In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink."
Hope this doesn't wreck the thread. The Atlantic Article cited I think is timely.
Think some people hated both my comment and yours.
I wish people who voted to - didn't stay hidden.
Maybe then more people would rethink thumbing people down unless it actually fit the rules of this forum at least.
I do take comfort in some of that, but I don't like the idea of egomaniacs/narcissists causing people to hate God because they are so selfish and greedy that they have to hoard wealth and power so no one else can have it and make many suffer terribly as well.
I would rather those egomaniacs/narcissists disappear into a pit before that can happen.
And you know which pit I am talking about.
I'm not hidden. Sometimes there's just no point in trying to talk to people who post certain things. What we post reflects our personalities.
Posting multiple paragraphs from a religious text is way off-topic and borderline proselytizing, and Christians in particular have a reputation for unwanted proselytizing so people are beyond sick of it. I don't appreciate having to scroll past all that garbage. The behavior is egocentric and a misuse of this forum. One sentence mentioning the connection between the topic and the bible would have been fine.
That is the only post I've ever downvoted.
Thanks for responding. I plussed you just for the heck of it.
I know there are people on both sides of the God concept on this forum so minuses are no surprise.
re the 'pit' though, I don't wish that on even my enemies.
If anyone is interested, a group I belong to has been studying books by Amir Tsafarti.
Starting with Revealing Revelation, then Discovering Daniel and now Exploring Ezekiel.
These studies have really changed my life.
I'm not a Christian but I do find myself in agreement with Christian and other religious leaders on the AI issue.
I am not totally against all use of AI. For example, AI for medical diagnoses, or analyzing large datasets for scientific purposes is fine in my opinion. But I don't agree with AGI for automating creative/intellectual endeavors like art, mathematics, programming, etc.
The idea of replacing humanity with machines, or merging the two, is repugnant and I find it alarming that tech billionaires are expressing these views openly.
It's too bad that we have Trump, who probably knows nothing about these issues but likes AI because it generates slop for him to post on social media, and because it's the only thing propping up the economy right now.
We also have geriatric people in congress who know zippo about technology as well.
This is why there should be age limits for people in congress not just on the low end, but on the high end as well.
But yeah, agree with most of what you said. Only thing not, is that I am a christian.
Though I will say, I am probably more left wing then most of them are and even some atheists are less left wing than me.
You can thank the free software movement and reading comments from Europeans on how this wouldn't fly in my government for that. :)
Those comments from Europeans were from people watching late night make fun of USA's politics.
I have actually gotten to the point where I take everything a USA politician or media person says with a small grain of salt
"the next prophetic event"
Aye, Oin has read the portents, and the portents say: it is time.
