Hello, I am forwarding an email from Gottfried to trisquel-users mailing
list as per his personal request.

I wish the Trisquel web forum and mailing list issues can be resolved soon.

And I wish Gottfried's questions can be answered as well.

Sincerely yours,

Malsasa

please forward it to the Trisquel users website

this would be the title of the question and the first sentence in the mail:
Answer to Re 3: repository download again - how to install offline

https://trisquel.info/de/forum/re-3-repository-download-again-how-install-offline

"The error is because you are missing the Type:deb line."

What do I have to add in the file: trisquel.sources?

I have got:
Types: deb deb-src

When I add:
deb deb-src deb line (or deb-line)
bash: deb (deb-line) is unknown

I need a type which opens the packed packages
------------------------------

$ sudo apt install emacs
bash: install: cannot stat 'emacs': No such file or directory

It looks for a file or directory but there are only packed packages
which have to be unpacked in order to be installed.

Maintainers and others surely know what happens if somebody installs
some packages from the Internet.
There has to be a procedure which looks for the packages, unpacks them
and takes it and installs it.

If this procedure is not included in the "trisquel.sources" file
then it is impossible to install something offline.

I am sure there is a solution.
But I don´t know.

thanks

Gottfried

If /media/alle/25324e35-5a58-4712-8e36-c5f612436cb3/RepositoryTrisquel/ is where you downloaded the whole repository, I believe /etc/apt/sources.list.d/trisquel.sources should be:
Enabled: yes
Types: deb deb-src
URIs: file:/media/alle/25324e35-5a58-4712-8e36-c5f612436cb3/RepositoryTrisquel/
Suites: ecne ecne-updates ecne-backports ecne-security
Components: main
Signed-By: /usr/share/keyrings/trisquel-archive-keyring.gpg

Signed-By: /usr/share/keyrings/trisquel-archive-keyring.gpg

I have checked that in my "trisquel.sources" and changed everything
according that:

----------------
/etc/apt/sources.list.d/trisquel.sources:

URIs:
file:/media/alle/25324e35-5a58-4712-8e36-c5f612436cb3/RepositoryTrisquel/

here is my Repository on the external harddisk:

alle@Sony:/media/alle/25324e35-5a58-4712-8e36-c5f612436cb3/RepositoryTrisquel$
ls
bandwith-day.png meta-release-development pool
bandwith-week.png meta-release-lts README.html
canary meta-release-lts-development speedtest
dists Mirrors.masterlist
trisquel-archive-signkey.gpg
meta-release Mirrors.masterlist.inactive

$ sudo apt install emacs
bash: error: package emacs cannot be found

installation fails because package cannot be found.

I don´t know why it cannot be found, because the path seems to be right.

thanks for help

trying
sudo apt update:

it fetched some data from the external harddisk

but by some "sources" files:
/var/lib/apt/lists/partial/media/alle/...sources
permission denied

some Indexfiles could not be downloaded.

after that:

sudo apt install emacs:

Same error with the following command?
$ apt-cache policy emacs

Do you have /usr/share/keyrings/trisquel-archive-keyring.gpg? If not, download https://archive.trisquel.info/trisquel/pool/main/t/trisquel-keyring/trisquel-keyring_2023.02.07_all.deb and install it with 'sudo dpkg -i'.

$ apt-cache policy emacs

yes, same result,
package emacs cannot be found.

I have got the trisquel-archive-keyring.gpg.

-> the problem is somewhere else.

thanks very much

I had the same problem modifying my posts in Trisquel users forum and in general.

https://trisquel.info/en/forum/i-cant-seem-edit-my-posts

I made this thread because of that.

I think this forum has some bugs probably.

Although no forum is perfect.

"Have properly set your repository up, according to https://help.ubuntu.com/community/AptGet/Offline/Repository with https://archive.trisquel.info/trisquel/dists/ instead of http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/ ?"

I used this command:

rsync -rlpthi --delete-after --stats rsync.trisquel.org::trisquel.packages .

according to the Trisquel website:
https://trisquel.info/en/wiki/mirroring-trisquel

and saved it on the external harddisk.

That´s it.

I did not use:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/AptGet/Offline/Repository
because it seems to be specific for ubuntu.

I got all that dists which are mentioned in:
Index of /trisquel/dists
https://archive.trisquel.info/trisquel/dists/

that´s why it took so long.

If I leave the original destination for updating packages in
/etc/apt/sources.list.d/trisquel.sources
then,
starting synaptic it shows all the available packages.

If I uncomment this command
then,
synaptic shows only the installed packages.

It means as I wrote earlier
the external harddisk with the whole trisquel repository can´t be found,

It would be interesting if somebody does the same.
Downloading the whole repository to an external harddisk
and tries to install from there.
Will he also have the same problem as I have?
or will he be able to use the downloaded repository?
So we could learn from there what is going on here.

Once I got a message that "apt" has not the permission to install something from the external harddisk.
But I don´t think that is the problem.

If I install "aptitude" it will probably also not find the repository,
but I have not tried.

I don´t have any clue what to do.
